LIFE: Learning In Faith Experiences

Jesus appeared to the disciples with his greeting of “Peace be with you…as the Father has sent me so I send you.”  Then, breathing upon them, Jesus told them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”  In the act of the disciples being filled by the Holy Spirit, they were enabled and empowered to proclaim the Good News – they were changed!  It was through the power of the Holy Spirit, and not by any power of their own, that the disciples were able to speak to a crowd of people – beyond language barriers. The great news of this Pentecost celebration is that our Lord KNOWS how to speak to each one of us so that we, as unique individuals, can hear.  How does the Lord speak?  The Lord breaks through to us through people, events, situations, nature, silence, music, prayer, eucharist, etc.  All that we need to do is keep our hearts and minds open; to live in the present moment and the Holy Spirit enters into our lives “to continue the work in the world through the hearts of all who believe” (today’s liturgical opening prayer).  In all of today’s readings we learn of how the disciples are changed because of God’s Holy Spirit.  What changes have occurred in your life during this Easter season?  How have you been open to receive the “power” of the Holy Spirit?

To coincide with the Celebration of Pentecost, check out the Peace Pole Garden on the grounds of the Church this weekend!  LIFE participants last weekend wrote the word “PEACE” on white strips of material (written in 145 different languages).  The strips symbolize how the Spirit works within us to bring that peace throughout the world.  Remember, you have power!!

THANK YOU to LIFE guest presenters Charlie and Sheila Collins, who shared the witness of their mission trip to Nicaragua a few months ago.  This Parish is blessed with so many spirit-filled, faith-filled persons who live out the meaning of Stewardship.  Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with the LIFE community.

Life Home Kits are available for anyone at the door of the Church.
